Sharing

Last night we went to the Modla's for a cookout since we will be gone next week and they will be gone the next. Emma Grace and Maddie are now at the age where they can play alone w/o adult involvement which is nice and allows me to enjoy adult conversation. Sharing is a new term to both girls but both are fast learners. I am pleased with how well Emma Grace shares at Maddie's house w/being an only child. She continues to struggle with this concept in her own house. Anyways...while watching them share bubble toys it made me think, we teach children the concept of sharing but how much do we share as adults? I dont remember a single time at work where I have said, "Share!"....."Ok, now it is my turn, you need to share"...."share, share, share". These were a few of the comments made by the girls. It is so much fun to watch them interact! They had so much fun playing outside. They would go down the slides, climb around, whack things with sticks, and dig. Emma Grace was so dirty that there was dirt inside her nose attached to her snot! Yuck. When I wiped her nose in the bath and showed her she just giggled. I have attached some pictures to show how yucky she was. As most of you know I do not like a dirty child. Charlie says it is an indication of how much fun a child has by how dirty they are. I guess she had a good time!

Smells I dont like

Life at the Funderburk house is pretty uneventful this week. I have been working hard at getting Emma Grace to school by 8am to try and get her used to getting there earlier. It does seem to make my days more productive if I have somewhere to be so early. Days this week have consisted of cleaning house and running errands. Our dining room table is becoming full of crackers, chips, and plastic crap for Emma Grace to create castles in the sand. WE are so excited about this vacation with our dearest friends. Everyday Emma Grace says "I wanna go to the beach mom" my response is "I do too a few more days". In my efforts to clean the house today I noticed that only one sippy cup was dirty and there were none in the cabinet or fridge. This means they are hidden in the house and car. I found them: under the couch, under beds, and one under the drivers seat of my car. The smell of chocolate milk that has been confinded to a plastic insulated container for Lord knows how long has a smell like no other. Yuck!

On a side note potty training is going well with Emma Grace. She has gone potty twice at school! She does best at home w/o anything on....but what a mess. I will continue at this endeavor once we return from the beach. I am not going to push it during our one week of vacation out of 52.
I cant believe that Emma Grace is already at this stage of development. I do not think people have concept of time until they become a parent. Sometimes I wish I could slow time down. It makes me sad that one day she will not need me as much as she does now. I guess the requirements of what she needs will change as she becomes older. Even at 29 I still need to hear the voice of my mother.

It's new to me

Blogging is a new term to me and one that I have become interested in since my technologically savvy sister started hers. Starting a blog has been on the list of "things I will do when I am done with grad school", you could imagine the list is long :). My hope is that this experience will provide a therapeutic outlet for me to express thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Welcome to my life as a mother, wife, and middle school special ed teacher!
